Memory foam feels durable when you sleep on it, but it is not built for a normal laundry cycle. Soaking it can make the foam heavy and slow to dry. Aggressive spinning can distort the shape or break down the material.

Check what you actually have

Remove the pillowcase and any outer cover. Look for the care label on the cover and the foam core. Some pillows have a washable quilted cover and a foam insert that must stay out of the machine. Treat those as two separate items.

Freshen a pillow that is not stained

If the issue is odor rather than a spill, airing it out may be enough. Put the uncovered foam in a dry, shaded, well-ventilated spot for several hours. Direct blazing sun is not ideal for all foams, so do not leave it outside all day.

You can also dust dry foam lightly with baking soda, leave it for several hours, and vacuum it with a clean upholstery attachment. Do this gently so you do not pull at the foam.
